A project designed working with Systra . The King Abdullah Financial District monorail sets the benchmark for a modern, technologically advanced urban transit plan. Due to temperature
constraints the monorail must be immediately evacuated in the unlikely event of a breakdown. These proposals are for an emergency walkway bordering all points of the monorails passenger
serviced areas. The client desired a solution that leaves the monorail as visible as possible. The following design proposals use structural variations, elongations, and camouflaging
texture, color, and transparency to minimize the visual impact of the walkway structure and harmonize it with the monorail viaduct.
Here the viaduct structure is delicately touched at only two points per column leaving the monorail track almost entirely visible.
The diagrid structure presents a low visual impact. It is like a delicate mesh that does not cover but rather emphasizes the underling form.
The dramatic Y movement in the viaduct columns is continued and joined in the arched option.
