Home exchange is a growing trend world wide. Rather then rent a hotel, a travel will swap spaces with another who is mirroring their travel arrangements. People are motivated by a desire to save money, experience local cultures, and have personal travel experiences.
The process requires a bit of luck and trust but has become much simpler via the internet. The Home Exchange Hotel is a no frills condo hotel run by its owners rather then an outside firm. The architecture provides resources for renting or trading ones home when it is not in use.
For the owners: personal storage in unit, key exchange, security, and group legal advice. For visitors: shared cars, bikes, and cleaning services. For visitors: shared cars, bikes, and cleaning services. The site of the hotel is on an odd triangular block in the city of Chicago looking
over the river to the West and Michigan Ave to the East. On the site are two existing buildings which become a part of the larger project. The historic Motor Club building's lobby is restored, but the elevator shafts are cored out of the building to insert one the new tower's two cores.
The two cores support multistory cantilever trusses that span over the Motor Club and Christian Science Center Buildings. The sectional quality endows every unit a double exposure with high living spaces facing West and cozy sleeping rooms East.
